FamilySearch is launching a worldwide indexing event starting at 00:00 coordinated universal time (UTC) on July 21, which is 6:00 p.m. mountain daylight time (MDT or Utah time) on Sunday, July 20. It ends 24 hours later, at 23:59 UTC (or 5:59 p.m. MDT) on Monday, July 21.
The purpose is to reach the record breaking goal to have the participation of 500,000 indexers and arbitrators during the set 24 hour period.
Becoming an indexer is free and open to everyone age 12 and older. Indexing is the process of extracting relevant information from a historical record using an indexing tool that can be found on familysearch.org. The data produced during the indexing process contribute to create a free searchable database that makes it possible to find the names of our ancestor with a few key board strokes. Everyday hundreds of volunteer indexers worldwide contribute thousands of indexed names to the searchable online database found on the search page of familyseach.org. Try it, it’s free! You may make a discovery!
